The Challenge
When a major news channel approached Autoabode with a request to create an exact replica of India's Chandrayaan-3 moon rover, we knew we had an exciting challenge on our hands. The goal was to produce a model that wasn't just visually accurate — but fully functional, capable of demonstrating the same movements and operations as the real rover.
This project would not only showcase the capabilities of the Chandrayaan-3 mission but also highlight what's possible with advanced 3D printing technology made entirely in India.
From Concept to Creation
How We Built It
Detailed CAD Modelling
Our design team worked closely with space research experts to create a highly detailed CAD model of the Chandrayaan-3 rover — every component from wheels to solar panels accurately represented. CAD modelling is also offered as a service to all Autoabode customers.
High-Precision 3D Printing
Using the Duper PRO Giga with its massive 1-metre cube build volume, we printed large components of the rover in one piece — ensuring structural integrity and precision. Materials ranged from standard plastics to composite filaments for lightweight yet durable parts.
IoT Integration
We integrated IoT components to make the replica fully remotely controllable — simulating scientific experiments, collecting data, and transmitting it in real-time. Just like the actual Chandrayaan-3 rover communicates with ISRO from the Moon's surface.
Rigorous Testing
Before delivery, the replica was tested on simulated lunar terrain, IoT systems were calibrated for real-time communication, and scientific experiment simulations were verified. The result: a broadcast-ready model, remotely operated live on national TV.

Frequently Asked Questions
About the Chandrayaan-3 3D printing project
How did Autoabode 3D print the Chandrayaan-3 replica?+
Autoabode first created a detailed CAD model in collaboration with space research experts. Components were printed on the Duper PRO Giga — India's largest 3D printer with a 1-metre cube build volume. IoT components were then integrated for full remote operation.
Which 3D printer was used to make the Chandrayaan-3 model?+
The Duper PRO Giga — featuring a 1000×1000×1000mm build volume — allowing large structural components to be printed in one piece for maximum structural integrity and precision.
Was the Chandrayaan-3 replica functional?+
Yes — fully functional and IoT-integrated. Remotely controlled to simulate rover movements, scientific experiments, and real-time data transmission. Demonstrated live on a major Indian news channel.
Can Autoabode create 3D printed replicas for media and educational institutions?+
Yes. Autoabode builds custom scale models, working replicas, and educational prototypes for media houses, universities, defence establishments, and research institutions across India.
